Tech.Games S01E06: E3 popularity contests, missing games, and the curious case of video game hardware

Tech.Games S01E06: E3 popularity contests, missing games, and the curious case of video game hardware With the hype of E3 2017 behind us, we can take a calm and calculated look back at the games and hardware announcements as we meticulously prepare our spreadsheets to budget for the several thousand rupees we plan to spend on games this coming fiscal. It’s hard to look at everything objectively, of course, so let’s simply look at some statistics from YouTube and social media. The popular vote As we all know, democracy is an imperfect process, but we can confirm 100% that everything video games is quite literally a popularity contest (except in the case of Infinite Warfare or Mass Effect Andromeda, where any publicity ended up being bad publicity). So, which were this year’s most popular E3 trailers on YouTube? Coming in at #1 is Star Wars: Battlefront 2’s gameplay trailer, which at the time of writing has 8.9 million views. Battlefront 2 is followed by Super Mario Odyssey’...

Call of Duty – Infinite Warfare Review: Excellent single-player marred by lacklustre multiplayer

Call of Duty – Infinite Warfare Review: Excellent single-player marred by lackluster multiplayer The announcement of the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare remaster, and its subsequent inclusion in the “Legacy” edition of Infinity Ward’s latest installment in the Call of Duty franchise, Infinite Warfare sent mixed signals. Sure, it was an obvious choice of game to remaster — Modern Warfare contributed greatly to the establishment and popularization of the franchise. However, it also seemed to hint that publisher Activation wasn’t completely confident about the 2016 iteration. Did Infinite Warfare need Modern Warfare to reach its ambitious sales targets? Or is the strategy merely to milk more out of the franchise than Activision has been doing already? The answer could be either or both. I can say for certain, however, that Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare isn’t without its faults, but is a good enough game on its own. Infinite Warfare’s sin...

E3 2017: The Darwin Project is a survival game that will let players experience the thrill of hunting men The Darwin Project is a post apocalyptic survival action game introduced at Microsoft’s E3 conference. The game is the first title by the independent Scavengers Studio established in 2015. In preparation for an impending ice age, the humans of the future initiate a project that is partially entertainment and partially a science experiment. The Darwin Project is a competitive third person multiplayer experience, and promises to reinvent the battle royale genre. Players have to battle it out with other players in a treacherous arena. Everyone else on the arena has to be killed, before players are plonked into the next arena to repeat the process. During the process of tracking the other players, and through the combat, there is a commentary on the actions, presumably meant for a broadcast audience that is watching in. Players have to navigate extreme environmental conditions a...
